Then lets examine based off their design philosophy how they could be changed in order to provide the player with a satisfying experience.Ĭurrently the Eagle is lacking in almost every possible way. Lets start by looking at each of the ships that currently do not get flown and why. Trading is a tricky one so for now lets stick to combat ships as that is where real issues lie. Something that is not a gimmick but is so important that someone with unlimited credits would fly that ship to fulfill that role. The solution is simple really, have every ship have something it does that no other ship does better. They have no identity other than as a stepping stone to the next ship. The underlying issues here go far deeper than one ship being OP (which the FDL most certainly is) It would be easy to fix the broken leg that is the FDL's current state, and fix it with a swift nerf, but that is ignoring the patients broken arms and shattered skull. Simply because the FDL did everything those ships did but better in every way. ![]() I was going over all the different ships and load outs I would like to try but never would. For the first time in a long time I was bored with Elite, I no longer had a desire to play. There was the odd hero in a Viper but they had little to no impact during the fights and only served to highlight how impractical it is to bring anything but the top tier combat ship to a fight. ![]() Those who were not had Vultures or Clippers, the Clipper being the poor mans FDL and the Vulture being just the poor mans fighter. This fear became reality when for the most part everyone involved in PVP was in an FDL. When there is a ship that is unquestionably the best at a given role, eventually everyone who performs that role will be in that ship. I knew one day this would happen but I suspected it would take years not months after the games release.įor a long time I have been vocal about the fact that balancing ships around price is a terrible idea. At one point in local there were no fewer than 12 FDL's (13 if you included me). I was flying around the Lave cluster during the CODE vs CS + others war and something occurred to me.
